I was born in Switzerland in 1950. At five years
old, I moved with my family to Sweden. Now I live in Eskilstuna
a town near Stockholm. During the days I work as a pharmacist,
and work on my art in my spare time.
I have always been interested in art and painting,
but my interest in batik as an artform didn't begin until 1972
when I came in contact with an danish artist called Bitten Laub
who gave me inspiration and showed me how to work with wax and
dye.
Since I started, I have experimented with different
ways to give the pieces the form I want. While I still mainly
use a tjanting to create thin lines and dots, I also experiment
with brushes, different fabrics and even combining my work with
textile applications to achive works which have volume and depth
out of the ordinary.
My work is mostly inspired by the nature in Sweden.
Having spent the majority of my childhood in a small city near
the sea, a large part of my work stays centred on the Swedish
archipelago, and the small fishing villages and animal life out
there. I also like to portray the barren nature and abandoned
houses and villages from Lappland in the northern part of Sweden.
I also find old alleys particularly interesting. |
